Kristin | April 2020
Next on my list of nostalgic sessions to share is the lovely Kristin. I met Kristin through a photography group online I believe, while she was pregnant with her first. I was searching for new clients with a vibe that matched mine, and as soon as I saw her work (and photos of her incredible home) I knew I wanted to create with her.
I reached out to Kristin and asked if she would be willing to model a few shoots for me, and possibly have me document her birth. She was immediately so kind and willing, and after our first in-person meeting, I felt like I’d made a new friend! Kristin has a warm, comforting presence about her, and she approaches you with a hug every time you see her. She also has an incredible eye for photography, and the photos she takes of her personal life always take my breath away. She is so talented, and it shines through her work.
Since capturing her pregnancy and parts of her birth, I got to know Kristin on a deeper level. I was privileged to witness her journey into motherhood, and how gracefully she handled every challenge she was thrown. I’ve documented her and her son a handful of times, and each of those sessions reflects just now nurturing and compassionate she is as a mother.
Some of my favorite photos I’ve taken have been of Kristin, and I think that’s simply because her joy shines so evidently. It’s easy to capture beautiful photos of a person when they simply glow from the inside. Kristin has a big heart, one that has held me through some trying times, and one that has inspired me as well. There were seasons where she showed me what friendship could look like, what gentle and patient mothering looks like, and what it means to be comforted and validated during the storms of life.
I am grateful to have met Kristin, to have witnessed her step into motherhood through storms of her own, and take on the challenges with determination and grace. When I imagine a better future for the world, I imagine mothers like Kristin. Nurturing the future generations, filling the cups of the young so that they might fill others. I imagine hippie women in long dresses, dancing barefoot in the grass with children. That is how I see the world healing, and Kristin is a beacon of hope. May more mothers shine like her.
Kristin, thank you for allowing me to capture your beautiful essence so many times, and being the client of my dreams from day one. The storms never stop coming, and sometimes they drift us apart. I am glad you were with me through some of my storms, and I am grateful that even needing to sail away through another one didn’t stop me from stumbling into you again online. Your work inspires me, the love that bleeds out of your photos with your children inspire me. Stay beautiful love.
